Photographer Carol Spencer said that “everything is negotiable at the right price, even life.” As a photojournalist for U.S. News & World Report, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and other publications, Spencer witnessed, wrote about and photographed the refugee camps of the Gaza strip, historic meetings between world leaders, the sea jacking of the Achille Lauro, and meetings between dignitaries such as Yassar Arafat, Anwar Sadat, Presidents Carter and Clinton, and King Hussein of Jordan. Since the death of Carol Spencer, her sister Ellen has presented her writings and photographs to audiences across the country as a testimony to the fact that the violence she witnessed is still having repercussions today.
