"It's never too late to start over"

The 2008 luncheon honorees listened with rapt attention, as did all of us as keynote speaker, Ellen Susman, motivated our group of over 400 to invite change into our lives. We came away inspired to try something new, put money behind our ambitions, and make good choices for the future. By learning to say no (something that is hard for many of us), we can be open to new opportunities or for fun. Ellen pointed out that most of us are so over-scheduled that we seldom allow ourselves free time.
Her key points were aligned with the TWR mission of helping women and children develop social, financial and personal skills through education and experience. She reminded us that women often outlive men or find ourselves alone some time during our adult lives due to divorce. She said we should expect that we will sometimes fail but should get up and try again.
She closed her remarks with a touching excerpt written by her sister, a photojournalist, who had recently been lost to breast cancer, encouraging us to speak about what we are trying to become and what we still hope for. Her sister's book will be published in the fall: Danger Pay, by Carol Spencer Mitchell.
Thanks, Ellen, for reminding us of what's important and to be open to what may be in store for us in the future!
